EIFF – Day 8
Shortest day yet with only one film to speak of. I attended the Press & Industry screening of the Brian O’Malley directed Let Us Prey. My plan is to start doing more comprehensive reviews of some of my favourites over the next while so keep an eye out for that. I have one more day of film festival events and it’s back to real life so my final write up will be for Sunday the 29th of June, there’s nothing happening today (28th June) so there will be no writeup for that.
Tough film to give a plot synopsis but here goes. A very intimidating and terrifyingly mysterious man finds himself in a small town jail cell which causes madness to descend among his fellow inmates. It becomes a brutal fight for survival for rookie cop Rachel (Pollyanna McIntosh) as everyone around her is slowly driven insane by the presence of this mysterious figure.
I liked this film a lot, it was very stylish and the story was engaging enough to keep my interest throughout. The performances were excellent, particularly from Liam Cunningham who was about as intimidating as it gets. Excessive violence is common in the film but I felt that it was played for laughs rather than shock value. A really good film and highly worth a watch.
